Block constraint preconditioners are a most recent development for the iterative solution to large‐scale, often ill‐conditioned, coupled consolidation problems. A major limitation to their practical use, however, is the somewhat difficult selection of a number of user‐defined parameters (at least 4) in a more or less optimal way. The present paper investigates the robustness of three variants of the block constraint preconditioning in relation to the above parameters. A theoretical analysis of the eigenspectrum of the preconditioned matrix provides relatively simple bounds of the eigenvalues as a function of these parameters. A number of test problems used to validate the theoretical results show that both the mixed constraint preconditioner (MCP) combined with the symmetric quasi‐minimal residual (SQMR) solver and the MCP triangular variant (T‐MCP) combined with the bi‐conjugate gradient stabilized (Bi‐CGSTAB) are efficient and robust tools for the solution to difficult Finite Element‐discretized coupled consolidation problems. Moreover, the practical selection of the user‐defined parameters is relatively easy as a stable behavior is observed for a wide range of fill‐in degree values. During the last few years the photovoltaic energy market has seen an outstanding growth. According to the new directive on renewable energies of the European Commission (2009/28/EC), the European Union should reach a 20% share of the total energy consumption from renewable sources by 2020. The national overall targets impose for Italy a 17% renewable share: in case of failure the gap would be filled by importation of renewable energy from non-UE countries. The ambitious national targets and thus the continuously increasing interest on renewable fuels, require simple but reliable methods for the energy potential assessment over large-scale territories. Considering roof-top integrated PV systems, the assessment of the PV energy potential passes through the evaluation of the roof surface area available for installations. In the present paper a methodology for estimating the PV solar energy potential is presented, together with its application to Piedmont Region (North-Western Italy). The roof area suitable for solar applications, is calculated through the analysis of available GIS data. The solar radiation maps are taken from the database of the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. Different solar energy exploitation scenarios are proposed with the relative perspective results and confidence interval. Further developments and applications of the presented methodology are finally discussed. 相似文献

A GIS-based procedure for predicting pesticide exposure in surface waters has been applied on a pilot river basin characterized by intensive agricultural activity. The predictive approach has been validated through experimental monitoring, performed by collecting manual and automatic water samples during the productive season. Five active ingredients (terbuthylazine, metolachlor, alachlor, linuron, fenitrothion) were selected for analysis to validate the predictive approach. Comparison between predicted and experimental values showed good agreement for terbuthylazine and metolachlor (used in large volumes within the basin), demonstrating the reliability of the approach. However, some anomalous results were obtained for some of the other chemicals, which serve to highlight the difficulties in getting reliable input data, in particular on application patterns (rate and time). Furthermore, the value of mapping pesticide exposure on the medium-large scale is described, and the limitations of the reported predictive approach are discussed. 相似文献

Mass spectrometry-based qualitative and quantitative (bio)molecular analysis is a corner stone in the state-of-the-art pipelines in systems biology and environmental sciences. High-resolution and efficient tandem mass spectrometry methods and techniques are the essential analytical capabilities for the in-depth analysis of extremely complex mixtures of (bio)molecules of a very broad dynamic range of concentrations. Here, we briefly review the advantages and limitations of the current mass spectrometry with a focus on resolution, or resolving power, and methods of (bio)molecular fragmentation in the gas phase. We conclude with an outlook that considers possible avenues for further mass spectrometry-based method and technique development, indispensable for advancing the challenging real-life mass spectrometry applications in the XXI century. 相似文献

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is extensively used to investigate the behavior of dense fluidized suspensions. Often modelers assume that these are formed by few solid phases of particles with constant size. But real powders are continuously distributed over the particle size, and their distribution functions change continuously in time and space reflecting the physical and chemical phenomena occurring within the system. To account for this key feature, models have to include a population balance equation (PBE), which needs to be solved in place of or along with the customary fluid dynamic transport equations. The recently developed quadrature method of moments (QMOM) and direct quadrature method of moments (DQMOM) permit to solve PBEs in commercial CFD codes at relatively low computational cost. These methods, however, still need testing in the context of multiphase flows. Investigating a simple problem, namely the dynamics of two inert polydisperse fluidized suspensions initially segregated, we highlight an important limitation of these methods, which fail to properly model diffusion in real space. We explain where the problem originates and comment on a possible way to overcome it. To conclude the work, we discuss some simulations based on the original and revised formulations of the methods, describing how the code numerics affects the results. 相似文献
